Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Creates Wonders on Earth
The overall design concept of Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge includes strategic, innovative, functional, safety, environmental protection, cultural and landscape aspects.
The main bridge of Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge is three long-span steel cable-stayed bridges, each of which has its own unique artistic conception. Among them, the bridge tower of Qingzhou waterway absorbs the cultural elements of "Chinese knot" and "curvilinearizes" the original right-angle and straight-line shapes, which makes the bridge tower smart, delicate and elegant. The shape of the tower crown of the main tower of the river-to-sea Waterway Bridge is derived from the element of "white dolphin", which is combined with the marine culture of the dolphin reserve.
The main tower of Jiuzhou Channel Bridge is modeled from "sail". It implies "long voyage". It forms a serialized modelling effect with the tower body of river-sea direct ship channel. The overall shape of the bridge tower is beautiful, affinity is strong, and has a strong landmark charm. Eastern and Western artificial islands absorb the element of oyster shells, implying that oyster shells abound in Hengqin Island, Zhuhai. The overall design of Hong Kong Port is innovative, beautiful and energy efficient. The traveling inspection building is designed with a wave-shaped roof. To support the roof, the pillars of the building are tree-shaped, conical below and branch-shaped above. The toll station closest to Zhuhai is designed to be curved, with a steel column in front and several cables pulled behind, like a huge anchor. The height difference between the water and underwater parts of the bridge is nearly 100 meters. It has both horizontal curve and vertical height. The whole bridge is as slender and lightweight as a ribbon. It links multiple nodes together, implying "perfect connection". Qianshan River Bridge adopts corrugated steel web prestressing composite box girder scheme, adopts sky-blue painting scheme conforming to green ecological characteristics, which is light and beautiful in shape and natural ecological landscape; the bridge body is vigorous and light, like sleeping wave, sky-blue corrugated web and Qianshan River waterway reflect each other remotely, just like water and sky. It forms a gorgeous scenery line between the Strong wind and the surging clouds.

In view of the harsh requirements of "low water resistance rate", "non-interference between land, water and air three-dimensional traffic lines", "environmental protection" and "traffic safety" in sea-crossing projects, the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge adopts the construction form of "bridge, island and tunnel in one". The whole section of the bridge presents a S-shaped curve, and the axis direction of the pier and the flow direction of the current are roughly level. It can not only alleviate driver fatigue, but also reduce the water resistance of bridge pier, and improve the architectural aesthetics.

Considering the economic, aesthetic and other factors of bridge construction, as well as the requirements of navigation grade, all the three navigation orifice bridges of the main bridge of Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge are cable-stayed bridges, which are stretched from about 3000 tons of self-weight main tower to bear about 7000 tons of girder surface by several super-high-strength parallel steel cable-stayed bridges of 8-23 tons and 1860 MPa.
