gmtlight News, On July 7, Yuanmingyuan ushered in good news, such as the ancient lotus seeds unearthed from the archaeological site of Yuanmingyuan are now in full bloom for the first time at the Lotus base of Yuanmingyuan.
Yuanmingyuan Sleeping for 100 Years Old Lotus Resurrection and Flowering
In 2017, 11 ancient lotus seeds were discovered in Jingxiangchi during the archaeological process at Ruyuan site in the southeast corner of Changchun Garden.
On May 31, 2018, Yuanmingyuan sent 11 ancient lotus seeds to the Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences for cultivation. The two sides discussed the detection, research and cultivation of ancient lotus seeds, and finally decided to send three of them to the Archaeological and Cultural Faculty of Peking University for year identification, and the remaining eight for cultivation experiments.
After monitoring and careful cultivation by experts of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, six ancient lotus seeds have successfully germinated after sowing, and in the end of August 2018, they were in the experimental pot with long leaves and lotus roots. These six ancient lotus seeds are wintering in greenhouse. They were moved out of greenhouse and planted in Lotus base in April this year. Now, the ancient lotus seeds that have been sleeping for a hundred years have come back to life and blossom.
