Maotai liquor is a traditional Chinese specialty liquor. It is one of the world's three famous distilled liquors, as well as Scotch whiskey and French Cognac Brandy. On February 14, 2003, the former General Administration of Quality Supervision and Inspection (AQSIQ) approved the implementation of product protection in the origin of Maotai Liquor.
On March 28, 2013, the former General Administration of Quality Supervision and Inspection approved the readjustment of the protection name and scope of geographical indication products of Maotai Liquor.
