The custom of watching lanterns at Lantern Festival originated in the early Han Dynasty. It is said that the emperor of Tang and Ming Dynasty displayed the lanterns in Shangyang Palace on Lantern Festival to celebrate the peace of the country, Thailand and the people. With the flashing lights, the lanterns symbolized "colorful dragon auspicious, prosperous people and strong country". The fashion of lanterns is still popular today.
In the Kaiyuan period of Tang Dynasty, in order to celebrate the country's peace and prosperity, people tied lanterns, which symbolized "colorful dragon bodes well, and the country is strong in Minfu" by flashing lights. The style of lanterns has been popular since then.

灯笼是中国文化元素之一，有几千年的悠久历史。
灯笼也是古时灯具的一种，早在八世纪的唐朝就有记载使用灯笼的起由。元宵观灯的习俗起源于汉朝初年，相传唐明皇于元宵节在上阳宫大陈灯影，是为了庆祝国泰民安，才扎结花灯，借着闪烁不定的灯光，象征着“彩龙兆祥，民富国强”，花灯的风气至今仍还广为流行。
唐开元年间，为了庆祝国泰民安，人们扎结花灯，借着闪烁不定的灯光，象征“彩龙兆祥，民阜国强”，花灯风气从此广为流行。
