Why are overseas students keen on Confucius Institutes?

The headquarters of Confucius Institute is located in Beijing. It was listed on April 9, 2007. Overseas Confucius Institutes are all branches of Confucius Institutes, mainly in the form of Sino-foreign cooperation.

The headquarters of the Confucius Institute is responsible for managing and directing the global Confucius Institute. Its specific functions include:

To formulate the planning, setting up and evaluation criteria for the construction of Confucius Institutes;

The establishment of Confucius Institute for examination and approval;

To examine and approve the annual project plans and budgets and final accounts of Confucius Institutes in various places;

Confucius Institute is a leading office of the Chinese Language International Promotion Group set up around the world to promote Chinese and disseminate Chinese culture.

The most important task of Confucius Institute is to provide standard and authoritative modern Chinese textbooks for Chinese learners all over the world, and to provide the most formal and main channel of Chinese teaching. In 2004, the world's first Confucius Institute was officially established in Seoul, South Korea.

In May 2012, the United States censored the academic qualifications of Confucius Institutes and asked some teachers to leave the country, which aroused heated public opinion. In September 2014, the University of Chicago and Pennsylvania State University announced that they would stop cooperating with the Confucius Institute of China. In December, the Foreign Ministry responded to whether Confucius Institutes had restricted academic freedom in American universities. The Confucius Institute of Stockholm University in Sweden was closed on 30 June 2015.

Just like Chinese are studying Western History and cultures, Foreigners study Chinese culture through Confucius Institutes. Chinese people go thousands of miles and spend a lot of money to study western culture in western developed countries, while China are sending Chinese culture to their doorsteps.We believe that more and more people will study and study the long-standing Chinese culture, and Confucius Institute will only be one of the forms of dissemination of Chinese culture. As of December 2018, China has established 548 Confucius Institutes and 1139 Confucius Classrooms in 154 countries and regions, with 2.1 million registered students and 46,000 full-time and part-time teachers at home and abroad.

The upsurge of Confucius Institutes in some American cities reflects the conflicts between China and the United States in terms of historical and cultural differences, values, historical views and social views.
