China has defined the range of livestock and poultry that can be cultured and eaten, it's good for animals and human beings.

gmtlight noticed that the Ministry of agriculture and rural areas of China officially released the national catalogue of livestock and poultry genetic resources (hereinafter referred to as the "Catalogue") on the 29th, making clear for the first time the range of livestock and poultry species, and thus the range of "edible" livestock and poultry.

There are 33 kinds of livestock and poultry listed in the catalogue, including 17 kinds of traditional livestock and poultry, which are pig, common cattle, rumen, buffalo, yak, large amount cattle, sheep, goat, horse, donkey, camel, rabbit, chicken, duck, goose, pigeon and quail; 16 kinds of special livestock and poultry, which are respectively sika deer, horse deer, reindeer, alpaca, Turkey, guinea fowl, pheasant, partridge, Muscovy duck, mallard duck, ostrich EMU, mink (non edible), silver fox (non edible), arctic fox (non edible), raccoon dog (non edible).

The head of the Ministry of agriculture and rural areas introduced that the catalogue belongs to the positive list of livestock and poultry breeding, and those listed in the catalogue are applicable to the management of the animal husbandry law. "These livestock and poultry are domesticated and bred by human beings for a long time. They have a certain population scale and are mainly used for agricultural production. The population can reproduce under the conditions of artificial breeding, providing human beings with meat, eggs, milk, fur, fiber and other products, or meeting the needs of service and sports."

During the period when the catalogue was open to the public for comments, "whether the dog was listed in the catalogue" attracted social attention and hot debate. This public catalogue did not include the dog in it.

According to the head of the Ministry of agriculture and rural areas, most of the opinions agree that dogs are not included in the catalogue. Now dogs have more diversified uses, which are embodied in pet companionship, search and rescue police, accompany and guide the blind and other functions, and are more closely related to human beings.
