Container standardization can not only improve the universality and interchangeability of container as a common transport unit in sea, land and air transportation, but also improve the security and economy of container transportation, and promote the development of international container multimodal transport.
The standardization of container also provides the basis for the selection, design and manufacture of the carrying tools and loading and unloading machinery of the container, so that the container transportation becomes a coordinated, specialized and efficient transportation system. Container standards are divided into international standards, national standards, regional standards and company standards according to the scope of use.
International container standard refers to the international standard container which is constructed and used according to the international standard formulated by the 104 Technical Committee of international organization for Standardization (ISO).
Container standardization has gone through a development process. Since its establishment in 1961, ISO / TC104 Technical Committee has made many supplements, additions, additions and modifications to the international standards for containers.
The current international standards for containers are uniform in width (2438 mm), four in length (12192mm, 9125mm, 6058mm, 2991mm) and three in height (2896mm, 2591mm, 2438mm). That is, 40 feet, 30 feet, 20 feet, 10 feet, but 40 feet and 20 feet are commonly used. The general container height is 2438 mm, and there are also elevated containers.
