The nickname of America is "Uncle Sam"
Legend has it that during the Anglo-American War of 1812, Sam Wilson (1766.9.13-1854.7.31), a businessman in Troy, New York, wrote "u.s." on a barrel supplying military beef, indicating that it was the property of the United States. This is exactly the same abbreviation as his nickname "Uncle Sam" ("U.S."), so people jokingly call these items with the "u.s." mark "Uncle Sam". Later, Uncle Sam became the nickname of the United States. In the 1930s, American cartoonists painted Uncle Sam as a tall, white-haired man with a star-striped cap and goatee beard. In 1961, the United States Congress passed a resolution officially recognizing Uncle Sam as the symbol of the United States.
