On September 26, the United States held the 2019 United Nations Earth Guardian Award in New York for the highest-level award in the field of global environmental protection. At the event, Inge Anderson, Executive Director of UNEP, honored the winners. Costa Rica President Alvarado and his wife, Cape Verde Prime Minister Silva, United Nations Development Programme Administrator Steiner and other government officials from more than 20 countries, environmental protection agencies, business people and more than 500 guests witnessed the scene.

The "Ant forest" project from China won the "Motivation and Action" Award. This is the third consecutive year that China's environmental protection project has won this honor after the construction of Saihanba Forest Farm in 2017 and the award of the demonstration project of 10000 villages in Zhejiang Province in 2018. Costa Rica won the "Policy Leadership Award" and Patagonia, the American outdoor clothing brand, the "Business Award". Canadian atmospheric scientist Catherine Hayhoe won the "Science and Innovation Award" and the "Motivation and Action Award for the Future" on Friday.
