On March 8, 2018, representatives of 11 countries participating in the negotiation of the comprehensive and progressive trans Pacific Partnership Agreement (cptpp) held a signing ceremony in Santiago, Chile. Countries that have signed the cptpp are Japan, Canada, Australia, Chile, New Zealand, Singapore, Brunei, Malaysia, Vietnam, Mexico and Peru.

On the evening of November 20, 2020, President Xi Jinping said: "the Chinese side will actively consider joining the comprehensive and progressive trans Pacific Partnership Agreement."
In December 8, 2020, South Korean President Wen Yin said he was considering joining the "comprehensive and progressive trans Pacific Partnership Agreement".
